How I learned to stop worrying and love Volbeat.

Hopefully those of you that read THKD on the regular realize that I don’t just listen to death, doom and black metal 24/7.  I love all kinds of music, and sometimes I need something big, loud, bright and catchy, with pristine production and intelligible vocals.  So it was a pleasant surprise when I discovered Volbeat a few weeks back, opening the Megadeth/Rob Zombie tour that recently wrapped up its trek across the US.  I knew little about the Danish band prior to the show, save the one song being played on the radio (“A Warrior’s Call”) that my wife had brought to my attention, and the fact that none other than Mercyful Fate’s Hank Shermann is their touring lead guitarist.  “A Warrior’s Call” is about as far removed from Mercyful Fate as it gets, but it is also a catchy, grooving and fun slab of metallic hard rock; sometimes that’s all it takes to pique my interest.

Chuck Biscuits Redux

Apparently, the report of Chuck Biscuits’ passing away last weekend was a complete HOAX.  Click HERE to read the details from the blog that originally broke the news.  I guess the valuable lesson to be learned is, don’t believe everything you read on the internet.

It really is a bummer that someone with absolutely nothing to gain would perpetuate such an awful rumor just for the hell of it.  Chuck Biscuits is a legendary punk/metal/hard rock drummer in my book, and it is a shame that someone would choose to prey upon him, his family and his many fans in such a disgraceful manner.  As a fellow blogger, my heart also goes out to the dude who broke the news on his blog, unwittingly falling into the trap of this sick individual.

My original post remains below as a reminder not to be so quick to subscribe to the internet rumor mill. That is all.

Chuck Biscuits was the drummer on Danzig’s classic first four albums, as well as the Thrall Demonsweatlive ep.  He also did stints in Black Flag, The Circle Jerks and Social Distortion. He passed away last Saturday after a battle with throat cancer.

For anyone that appreciates metal, Danzig 1 – 4 should be considered required listening, and those records surely wouldn’t have the same character and attitude if not for Biscuit’s pounding, direct work behind the kit, not to mention a 10 foot tall demon skull drum riser.

Here’s my favorite music video of all time, “Mother ’93″, featuring Biscuits on the skins.
